What a fun, fun day! I got this stack of blocks finished, they need to be trimmed...I had to trim one so I could see what it was going to look like...this is the Sugar Twist pattern by the Pattern Basket...fun to do...I have the sashing pieces cut so a bit more sewing and mom's quilt will be coming together. What a very enjoyable day...loved it! Sewed and watched two very cute movies...Hitch with Will Smith and Made of Honor with Patrick Dempsey...I liked both of them...very light and fun!

Hope everyone had a great Saturday...thanks so much Kelly and Kris...I'm looking forward to the next sewing party...you girls sure know how to throw a party!!!

I'm a Lucky Girl

Yes I am, I am a very lucky girl...last week I asked for opinions on irons...and I got lots of opinions. I read them all, and lots of you said that you've found using water in the irons is truly the downfall of them. I tried to use a dry iron and a spritz water bottle...I really, really tried. I guess I've been a steam girl for way too many years and just couldn't make myself like it. So I made my decision...went the cheapy iron route. The toughest part was finding one that didn't shut itself off too quickly...there were several that shut off in 7 minutes...they must be kidding...so this Sunbeam classic will stay on for 30 minutes of non-use before it shuts off. I've been happy with the results...good amount of steam and it gets nice and hot...and it only cost $19.99...I figure I can buy 5 of these irons if I need to for the price of my Rowenta...and it lasted less than a year. So, THANK YOU all so much for your help.

Today's mail came and look what was in it......Dawn from Springwater Designs sent this to me. Her note said that she had this in her EBay shop and when she saw my post with my word, she knew she needed to send it to me. I LOVE it! Thank you so much Dawn.

Tomorrow is the ...and I'm ready...I have my project cut, my chick flicks picked out and my chocolate in the basket. I'm very excited! I just told Andy that I was going to be sewing with my friends tomorrow...YIPPEE! Kelly asked us to work on a project that reminded us of our word for the year...Since my word is Enjoy, I decided that I would make a quilt for Mom for her 89th birthday in April, since one of my goals was to be able to really enjoy the time I get to spend with her...and what better fabric to use for her quilt...BLISS...which is pure enjoyment.

I'm looking forward to spending the day with lots of you tomorrow! ENJOY!!!

Friday Rambling

How happy am I? VERY! Civil War Tribute is done
...need to get the back put together so I can get it to the quilter for her to work her magic. I really am thrilled beyond words to have this finished.

I decided to join in and do the blocks that Barbara Brackman is posting on her blog every Saturday...I've decided to do mine in red, cream, gold and blue and they'll become quilts for soldiers. I'm having lots of fun with them...great blocks. These are the first two and then last Saturday the block was an applique block...couldn't bring myself to do the applique so after chatting with my friend Jeanne, she came up with this great block. Barbara's block was Seven Sisters...we only have four...but I really like it.

These are my newest chocolate addiction...OMG, these are incredible. I used to love those chocolate covered cherries in the Whitman's Sampler box...these have the same flavor just don't have the gooey syrupy stuff inside and they don't have the cherry but they sure have the cherry flavor. They jumped right into my cart in Target...I may have to go back for another bag.

I just have to share these 2 pictures from our trip to Birmingham...they truly are my favorites...Hampton and Grandy watching the Cars DVD on my laptop......they were so intent. And my mom reading to Camden...Camden loves her Nana!

Here's one of the things I worked on today...I love these blocks for the Designer BOM...this is going to be the cutest quilt.

I'm Taking a Poll

HELP! I need help! My very hot and steamy Rowenta iron, that I loved and adored decided yesterday as I was pressing the last border of the Civil War Tribute top to just let all the water run out of the tank on to my ironing board. OMG! What a mess...I have no clue...I followed all the directions...used tap water, never left water in overnight...I'm very sad...it got super hot, had awesome steam and didn't shut off...HELP...please tell me what your favorite iron is.

I promise I'll be back with pictures...Civil War Tribute, Barbara Brackman blocks and my newest chocolate addiction...See you later and thanks for all your HELP!

A Broken Record

I know I'm showing my age with that title...but my mom would sure say, I sound like a broken record...where is the time going?...why is it flying?...how did it get to be the middle of January?...In all the time I haven't blogged I should certainly have tons to show you...but I don't...what have I done with all this time? We have done a lot of cleaning out...clothes, shoes, purses, kitchen stuff...if we haven't used it this past year...it's gone! There are so many people that could really use this stuff and it's sitting in our closets...we were ruthless...really if we hadn't used it in 2010 it's gone. Now, please notice I did not say that I did that in the sewing room...that rule does not apply there.
I am really feeling good about "decluttering".

I did get some sewing done...I've been working to finish up the Civil War Tribute quilt...I finished the big star block in the center over the weekend...that was the last block...now to get the rows together and the borders on...I've decided that I'm just going to put 2 plain borders on and leave off the half square triangle border that they put on the outside...this quilt has really, really tried my patience, tested my abilities and caused me to say many bad words...I think I've even made up a few...so it just needs to be DONE! Hopefully tomorrow it will be finished.

My Word...finally

Kelly over at Charming Chatter challenged us to come up with a word for the year...here's what she says..."we're choosing a word for the year. We're choosing a word the identifies what we'd like to see more of in our lives in 2011 - what we want to cultivate in our lives! It's a word to reflect on throughout the year - and to help us "live our best life" as Oprah would say!"

It took me forever to decide on my word...I thought and thought...more than likely over thought...but then this morning it hit me...in the quiet with my coffee my word came to me...
ENJOY
That's what I plan on doing this year...I plan to enjoy life...to get all the enjoyment I can out of everything I do. As I told Andy at the gym yesterday, it's all about my attitude. I can dread going to the gym, I can make it a chore, or I can enjoy my time there. I always feel better when I leave...I get to spend uninterrupted time reading my Kindle while spending time on the stairmaster...what's not to enjoy?

I'm going to enjoy every moment I have with my mom...she'll be 89 in April and I am so fortunate to still have her in my life.

I'm going to enjoy all the time I get to spend with Andy...aka Mr. Quilt Holder.

I'm going to enjoy the times I get to spend with Josh and Katie and my sweet Hampton and Camden...what blessings they are in our life.

I'm going to enjoy my sewing time...I'm not going to get bogged down in "stuff" that I really don't want to do anymore...I'm moving on...if I'm not in love with it anymore it's going to be out of here...be watching for giveaways...LOL!

I guess what I'm trying to say is...I'm going to ENJOY life!
